Marley's WordsWhen asked how many words Marley knows, I usually shrug and say that I have no idea. The more appropriate question to ask would be, how many of Marley's words do I remember?
Not including a plentiful number of food and toy words or names of other dogs and people . . . So far, I've come up with 97 words and phrases. As I remember more, they will be added to the list.

| Sit | Used mostly when I need the tension removed from her seat belt before I can remove it. |
| Down | Lie down, elbows on the floor. |
| Stand | Used when adjusting cape or harness. |
| Heel | I am ready to move. Get out from under my wheels. Stand at my side facing forward. |
| Stay | Stay put where you are. I do not enforce a sit-stay. If she wishes to do a down-stay, I'm okay with it. |
| Come | Come from wherever you are and give me your attention. |
| All the way under | Used after "Under" when I want her further under the indicated object. |
| ¡ándale! | Run! Hurry! |
| Back up | Turn around and walk facing the back of my chair. |
| Back-back | Take a few steps backwards. |
| Easy | Slow down, be careful, watch for danger. Used in heavy foot traffic areas. |
| Face forward | Turn around to face forward. Used when she is facing backwards. |
| Foot | Refers to her back feet. Used when grooming or examining a back foot. Used when she needs to lift a foot to untangle from the leash. |
| Footrest | Get up on my footrests or my footstool. |
| Forward | Go ahead in front of me. |
| Front and center | Sit directly in front of me, face me, give me your full attention. |
| Get in the car | Jump into the car. |
| Get in the house | Go into the house. |
| Get in the van | Go into the van. |
| Go round | Walk around the back of my chair to be on my left side. |
| In tight | Move to against left side of chair and sit. |
| Jump | Jump onto indicated object. |
| Left | Turn left. |
| Left-left | Turn left until facing in opposite direction. |
| Moo-moo / Move your little butt-butt / Excuse me | Move out of the path. Started out with pet as "move." Evolved into "moo-moo." Now converting into "Excuse me." |
| Move over | Usually used on the couch or van bench seat. |
| No pull | Do not put any force on the leash. |
| Off | Put all four feet on the floor. Used when front paws are on chair, etc. |
| On my left | Move to my left side. |
| On my right | Move to my right side. |
| Over here | Move to where I'm indicating. |
| Pay attention | Get focused. Look me in the eye. |
| Place | Go to mat and stay. |
| Right | Turn right. |
| Roll over | Roll over onto side. Used for looking at feet, etc. |
| Scoot | Scoot backwards underneath my footrests. |
| Settle | Settle down, calm down, relax, chill out. |
| Shake | Shake water off. Used after bath or walking in rain. |
| Step | Raise your foot. Used for putting on harness or untangling leash. |
| Turn | Watch for me to turn in any direction. |
| Turn around | When out
in public: I am going to turn to the right and face the other
direction. When at home: Turn and look behind you. |
| Under | Go under the indicated object. |
| Up | Put front paws on chair seat or my knees. |
| Wait | Informal version of "stay." Used when going through doorways, getting out of van, etc. when I want to go first. |

| Bring it | Bring indicated object and place in hand. Used with hand gesture or laser pointer. |
| Bring your bowl | When finished eating, bring food bowl and place in hand. |
| Bring phone | Get the cordless phone. |
| Bring towel | Pick up your "place mat" (a towel on the floor). |
| Close it | Move the door or drawer to its normal position. "Close" sometimes means "Open." |
| Come close it | Come close the door. |
| Come help | I've dropped something, please come pick it up. This differs from "Come" which means she is to come and pay attention. |
| Follow it | Look for the laser light on the floor and then follow its movement. Usually used with "Bring it." |
| Follow | Follow a person (usually a store clerk). |
| Hit it hard | Jump against the door to close it hard. |
| Lead the way | Follow up for "Where's your Daddy/Mommy?" |
| Leave it | Don't pick it up, sniff it, or look at it. |
| Light | Toggle the touch lamp on or off. |
| Oops | I dropped it. Please hand it to me again. |
| Other side | Push the other side of the door. |
| Paw Daddy/Mommy | Place paw on person's foot. Used for fetching person, as in "get help." |
| Paw | Put paw on indicated object. Used for pressing and pushing objects. |
| Pull | Move facing forward with tension on leash. (Note that tug is moving backwards.) |
| Push on it | "Paw" or jump to move the object (ie: closing a door) |
| Put it | Place object in mouth into indicated object. Used for putting objects in trash or putting objects in someone's hand. |
| Sock | "Tug" sock off foot and place in hand. |
| Take it | Pick up indicated object. |
| Take it to your Daddy/Mommy | Take indicated object to the other person. |
| Touch | Touch the indicated object with nose. |
| Try again | Used as encouragement. |
| Tug | Move backwards with something in mouth. Used for tugging open drawers, etc. |
| Tug-tug | Take the rope hanging from the door knob and pull/tug the door closed. |
| Where's your Daddy/Mommy? | Lead the way to the person. |

| Brush teeth | Go into bathroom and sit to have teeth brushed. |

| Doggie / Puppy / Perro | Used by excited small children. Usually means, "Watch your back." |

| Let me feel your toes | Allow me to examine feet. |
